The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwesi Amoako Atta says his Ministry is undertaking a comprehensive review of all projects in its portfolio and that, his Ministry and its Agencies are discussing challenges that affects contactors’ output.

The Minister revealed that the categories of projects that are being reviewed are projects that have been awarded but are yet to commence as well as projects that have low percentage progress in relation to the time elapsed will be reviewed and rationalized for termination and re-scoping, projects that have long exceeded their completion dates without tangible reasons for extension will be terminated and repackaged, and his Ministry will review and minimize the variation of ongoing projects that increase the project  cost and scope of works. The overall objective for the review is to achieve value-for-money on projects and to ensure that contract payments are adequately covered by the Road and Consolidated Funds.

The Minister pointed out some of the challenges that affect contactors’ output as inadequate contractor capacity, delays in payment for work done, difficulty of contractors in accessing credit facilities and inadequate supply and scarcity of construction materials at project sites.

In a follow up question, the Member of Parliament for Adaklu, Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza asked the Minister if his Ministry has suspended projects pending review, if so, he will like to know if it’s right to do so. The Minister assured the Member of Parliament for Adaklu constituency that, the committee has not suspended any project pending review and that the road projects are very important to his Ministry therefore, the projects are undergoing a speedy review.
