The Parliamentary Select Committee on Environment, Science and Technology has expressed grave concern over the massive accumulation of electrical and electronic waste at the Eco Partners facility in the Eastern Region, describing the situation as unsustainable and environmentally risky. During an oversight visit, the Committee toured the plant to assess waste management operations and their impact on the surrounding environment. However, members were left dissatisfied upon discovering huge mounds of e-waste awaiting processing. Anthony Mensah, Administrator of the Electrical and Electronic Waste Management Fund, told the Committee that scrap dealers had been instructed to hold onto the waste because the Accra Hub is currently full and cannot accept further deliveries. He, however, assured that an alternative storage site would be secured by the end of August. In response, the Committee resolved to convene an urgent meeting with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology, and other stakeholders to address the structural delays and identify lasting solutions to the growing e-waste crisis. The visit forms part of Parliament’s broader oversight mandate to ensure environmental compliance and sustainable waste management practices across the country.
