A delegation from the Data Protection Agency (DPA), led by Executive Director Dr. Arnold Kavaarpuo, paid a courtesy call on the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament. Speaker for sending a representative to the Agency's recently concluded Privacy Week celebrations, to brief the Speaker on the outcomes of the Annual International Conference on Data Protection and Privacy, and to present an official Citation of Appreciation in recognition of the Speaker's unwavering legislative and institutional support to the Agency. Dr. Kavaarpuo described the Speaker's backing as "indispensable" to the Agency's progress in safeguarding citizens' digital rights. In response, the Rt. Hon. Speaker expressed deep appreciation for the visit and the honour of the citation, emphasizing that privacy is a fundamental human right and not a luxury. He reiterated Parliament's steadfast commitment to strengthening the country's data protection framework, pledging to review existing laws to close loopholes, intensify public awareness campaigns particularly in rural areas, and enforce stricter sanctions against data privacy violators. "The Data Protection Agency is the shield of the digital age," the Speaker affirmed, "and as Parliament, we are the arm that holds that shield high. We shall not drop it."
