The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Chairman of the Planning Committee for the 4th African Inter-Parliamentary Conference in Ghana, Hon. Andrews Asiamah Amoako has described the conference as a historic citadel of African liberty. Delivering a closing remark on behalf of the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, he reflected on the significance of the gathering, noting that participants had assembled not merely to deliberate on issues of common concern but to answer what he called “the summons of history. He expressed profound gratitude to the President of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, for making the historic gathering possible, and commended his unwavering belief in the African Renaissance, which inspired and sustained the conference from beginning to end. Special appreciation was extended to the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, who represented the President at the event. The Deputy Speaker acknowledged that his presence and contributions greatly enriched the deliberations and underscored the importance the government attaches to the promotion of African values. He noted that the strong support shown by the government reflected a shared commitment to preserving the continent’s heritage and advancing its future. Referring to the charter adopted at the conference, he stressed that it was not a passive document to be buried in the archives of their respective parliaments, but “a covenant of the unconquered” and “the proclamation of our legislative emancipation.” He declared that the African family defined by heritage, protected by laws, and cherished by communities remains a non-negotiable red line. He later urged participants to internalise the trailblazing charter into their domestic laws and to march forward into tomorrow united in purpose, firm in conviction, and unshakable in sovereignty. The conference which was held under the theme Consolidating Parliamentary Consensus: Advancing the African Charter on Family, Sovereignty and Valuesy; brought together delegates representing about twenty countries.
