ITDS Head at University of Energy and Natural Resources engages Speaker on Modernizing Legislative Analysis
Tuesday, 24th March, 2026
Professor Peter Appiahene, Associate Professor and Head of the ITDS Department at the University of Energy and Natural Resources, has engaged the Speaker of Parliament to propose a collaboration aimed at modernizing legislative analysis.
He presented an AI-driven framework to digitize and analyze Ghana’s Parliamentary Hansards, enabling efficient, long-term tracking of policy shifts. The system, he said, would replace labor-intensive manual reviews and support more informed, data-driven decision-making.
The Speaker, Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, described the initiative as timely and significant, noting that while the institution has begun implementing related reforms, funding remains a major challenge. He added that they would welcome a review of existing systems to identify areas where the proposed solution could complement current tools, and expressed appreciation for the team’s insight and willingness to support the country.
