Decentralisation Ensures Oversight Responsibilities

The Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has disclosed that decentralisation ensures legislative, administrative and oversight responsibilities.

According to the Rt. Hon. Speaker decentralisation also ensures that national resources are equitably shared to promote sub-national lawmaking, deeper citizen participation and more responsive governance.

 The Rt. Hon. Speaker made this known at a Speaker’s Breakfast Forum under the theme: “Parliamentary Decentralisation: Taking Parliament Closer to the People”.

 He highlighted initiatives such as Parliament Television, which provides live broadcasts of proceedings and committee sittings to enhance transparency and inclusivity.

 The Speaker reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to making decentralization a lived reality for every Ghanaian, calling for collective action to build a more inclusive, empowered, and accountable governance system that delivers development to every community.

 The Clerk to Parliament, Mr. Ebenezer Djietror, Hon. Kweku George Ricketts-Hagan , Minority Leader Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, also shared remarks on bridging the gap between government institutions and the people.
