
In accordance with the mandate of the Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources under Order 259 of the Standing Orders of Parliament, the Committee convened a meeting with the Deputy Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources as well as key officials of the Ghana Water Company Limited and the Community Water and Sanitation Agency on Wednesday, 18th February, 2026. The meeting provided a platform for discussions on, among others, the gaps in the provision of adequate water services in rural areas, roles and responsibilities of relevant state agencies, and collaborative approaches between relevant institutions in light of rapid urbanisation, settlement expansion, and changing demographic patterns. The Committee acknowledges the industry of the Hon Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources in taking steps to ensure optimum service delivery within the water resources sector.
The Committee also had an introductory meeting with officials of the Coalition of NGOs in Water and Sanitation (CONIWAS) on water and sanitation-related issues affecting communities, in order to explore practical ways to strengthen cooperation between Parliament and civil society to advocate for improved water, sanitation and hygiene services across the country.
