
Chaired by Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, the Parliamentary Select Committee on Food, Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs met with a delegation from Oceana Global, led by the Chief Executive Officer, James Simon, along with Chief Scientist and Senior Vice President Kathryn Matthews and Senior Research Director Tess Geers. Discussions centered on the organisation's planned establishment of operations in Ghana as its first African base.
The meeting focused on strengthening fisheries governance, advancing Ghana's Blue Economy Strategy, and supporting implementation of the new Fisheries law. The Committee emphasised balancing conservation measures with protecting livelihoods for artisanal fishers and coastal communities, expressing optimism that sustained collaboration would advance sustainable ocean governance and reinforce Ghana's food security and economic resilience.
