FLIGHTS TO WA TO COMMENCE IN FEBRUARY, 2018 SAYS THE DEPUTY MINISTER FOR AVIATION

The Deputy Minister for Aviation, Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah         has stated that, the Centre for National Culture building has been rehabilitated and remodeled into a Terminal Building, with 2000-meter-long and 45-meter-wide runway has been completed, in effect achieving a hundred percent project completion of the Wa Airport.

Flights to Wa are therefore likely to commence by the end of February, 2018. The Deputy Minister said this on the floor of the House in response to a question posed by the Member of Parliament for Wa Central, Hon. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, on when the Wa Airport will commence operation.

The Deputy Minister revealed that, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority is taking steps to install a Navigation Aid; Non-Directional Beacon and a Containerized Control Tower in February, 2018. He further said, to improve on operational safety during the Approach and Landing phases, a Very High Frequency Omni-Directional Radio Range co-located with a Distance Measuring Equipment will be installed by August, 2018.

The Wa Airport is part of Government’s efforts to develop an aerodrome in each of the regions and that the Airport will serve as a catalyst for industrialization and rapid socio-economic development of the Upper West region.
