BEWARE OF YOUR UTTERANCES – ABLAKWA ADVISES OSEI NYARKO.

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa has cautioned the incoming Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Hon. Kennedy Nyarko Osei to be careful of his utterances when he takes on the mantle as a Deputy Minister for Agriculture citing the predicament of his predecessor

The position of Deputy Agriculture Minister became vacant when the then deputy Minister Hon. Quaittoo, who is the Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, came under fire for saying, in an interview on an Accra-based Star FM, that Northern farmers could not be trusted in their assessment of damage from armyworms. He further intimated that calls for government compensation for farm losses from the northern farmers were simply a ploy to fleece the state.

Hon. Quaittoo subsequently apologized for his comments in a statement, where he said he meant to imply that “some farmers can be difficult as it is with all regions” .He also said he prided himself as a Dagomba, having lived in the Northern Region for 27 years, and assured that he would not “consciously spite them. “But the apology was not enough, with the Minority in Parliament calling for his resignation or his immediate dismissal from the government for the disparaging comments.

Hon. Ablakwa was contributing to a debate to approve the appointment of the nominee for the position of Deputy Minister for Agriculture. Hon. Ablakwa also used the opportunity to challenge Hon. Nyarko Osei to fight and defeat the menace of smuggling and make the cost of tractors affordable when he gets to the Ministry of Agriculture.
